Peer Supervision (Online)

Are you a psychotherapist, social worker, psychologist, coach, or similar helping professional? Are you lacking regular supervision and consultation? Do you feel professionally isolated? Do you want feedback on your clients’ cases? Do you want to be exposed to alternative perspectives and new approaches? Do you want to make connections with like-minded professionals?

Join with other helping professionals to learn from each other in an intimate group facilitated by Laval. Participants are welcome to consult about a challenging client case, ask for suggestions or validation, share wisdom, offer suggestions, or merely soak in the collaborative environment.

About Laval

Having always valued knowledge and education, Laval Martin switched from studying astrophysics to obtain both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in social work, from Toronto Metropolitan University and University of Toronto, as well as a post-graduate certificate in instructing adults from George Brown College. He also has a certificate in working with people with developmental disabilities from Reena, in association with George Brown College. Laval has received training in providing supervision from Yorkville University as well as through CE You! Plus! with Rebecca Ashery, PhD, LCSW-C.

Providing counselling since 2006 and training since 2010, Laval began delivering psychotherapy in 2015. He has delivered over 100 workshops in association with the Canadian Training Institute, the Toronto Hostels Training Centre, the Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute, and through his own consultancy service, Laval Martin Consulting. Examples of workshops he’s delivered include resilience and burnout prevention, DBT skills, CBT skills, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, train-the-trainer, vicarious trauma, trauma informed care, treating trauma, debriefing models, counselling skills, harmonious team dynamics, critical incident group debriefing, mindfulness, and many more.

Laval has received some phenomenal supervision, notably from the late Jim Cullen, PhD. Sadly, not all of his supervision experiences have been so fantastic. Laval has experienced a variety of bullying and inappropriate behaviours from a number of past supervisors.

These experiences, both positive and negative, continue to inspire Laval to deliver the highest level of excellence in his own supervision and consultation services. Laval has delivered both individual and group supervision and consultation to counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, and coaches.

Laval has also practiced various martial arts and self-defense systems since 2001, with a focus on avoiding and de-escalating conflict. He is a full-instructor of Senshido and also holds an instructor certification with Safe International. Laval is an avid chess player and he has hosted a monthly meetup group, Beer and Philosophy Night since 2014.
